A Broken Umbrella Needs Your Help!

A Broken Umbrella Theatre has always been committed to New Haven, its history, present, and future. That’s evident in the placemaking that we’ve become known for. We’ve transformed, rehabilitated, and enlivened department stores, theaters, and factories, bringing each location we touch back to life, making the old new again.

We are beyond thrilled to share our plans with you for a new venue in New Haven at 280 Blake Street. Accessible from Westville, Beaver Hills, and West Hills, The Umbrella will be a community hub and black box theatre space where New Haven artists can come to collaborate and stage work.

Read all about it in The Independent and The Arts Paper.

2023 was a great year at A Broken Umbrella Theatre

Watch The Library Project

Commissioned to celebrate 125 years of the New Haven Free Public Library, The Library Project is an after-hours, choose-your-own-adventure, original theatrical experience created by A Broken Umbrella Theatre

From puppetry to song to dance, new stories and spectacles were created behind every corner. Experience the show through as the camera travels with performers from room to room and see the public library like you have never seen her before!

“Broken Umbrella Theatre shows in this work that its artistry is as great as any major theater in Connecticut.”
