Where the Rubber Met the Road Opens at Aquila Motors

Our 14th original production transforms a working auto shop on Whalley Avenue into a stage for two New Haven invention stories.

Where the Rubber Met the Road opened at Aquila Motors on Whalley Avenue, staging the parallel stories of Eli Whitney Blake and Charles Goodyear — two New Haven inventors who shaped the industrial world and then fell from grace.

The production transformed the working garage into a fully realized performance environment, following our signature approach of finding forgotten or overlooked spaces and filling them with original theater.

Directed by Ruben Ortiz and Andrew Elliott, with original music by Josh Kane and scenic work by Brandon Fuller, Where the Rubber Met the Road brought two family lines into collision across history, invention, and resilience.
