A Broken Umbrella Theatre acquires a former dry cleaner and mechanic shop at 280 Blake Street — the future home of The Umbrella.
After 14 years of activating other people's spaces, A Broken Umbrella Theatre has purchased its first permanent home: 280 Blake Street in Westville.
The building — a former dry cleaner and mechanic shop at the crossroads of Westville, West Hills, and Beaver Hills — will be transformed into a six-space arts complex: a black box theater, cabaret event space, gallery, recording studio, commercial kitchen and bar, and outdoor patio.
This purchase represents the culmination of our distinctive pattern: find a forgotten building, rehabilitate it through art, and hand it back to the community in better shape than before. But this time, we're keeping the keys.
